Windshield wipers are an element that is usually overlooked during vehicle maintenance. However, when not in perfect condition, they can significantly impair visibility and the ability to assess driving conditions on the road.

The question is when is it time to change the wipers and when are they still good for use, and which wiper blades are better? Are the wipers from the local gas station good enough for your Mercedes-Benz, or should you opt for the OEM ones?

Can you feel the difference? Your Mercedes-Benz can!

To assess the condition of your wiper blades, the built-in wear indicator can be used, if the wiper blades are equipped with it. If they are, the indicator will change colour when wipers are no longer good for use. If the wipers are not equipped with it, attention should be paid to the noisiness of the wipers and their ability to clean off water and dirt from the windshield without streaking it. Noisy wipers are something that no Mercedes-Benz owner expects to hear from their vehicle and the same goes with compromised visibility, which is even more important for the safety on the road, therefore a preventive assessment method should be used. We recommend contacting your service representative early, in order to professionally validate the usability of your wiper blades. Same as tyres, wiper blades must be replaced before the safety on the road has been compromised.

Some people say that there is no difference in the cleaning abilities of budget class wipers and OEM wiper blades. Even gas station wipers do their job well during the first few weeks or even months of use. Budget class wipers are often times not coated with a protective coating, for example, graphite, compared to OEM blades. This leads to a fast decrease in the cleaning abilities of the wiper and therefore – decreased safety. Mercedes-Benz OEM windshield wipers have gone through extensive testing and proven themselves in extreme conditions. In order to deliver the best performance, OEM wipers must pass a test of wiping 4000 litres of water. Salt water is being sprayed on them for 250 hours and 500 000 cleaning cycles are made. In total, 2 160 000 square meters of cleaned surface. That’s what the OEM wipers are capable of!

 Made for a specific model

Each of Mercedes-Benz models has a different windshield curvature, therefore a specific set of wipers must be engineered accordingly.

  Graphite coating

OEM wipers have been coated with a graphite coating which ensures silent cleaning action and spotless results..

Up to 500 000 wiping cycles

Mercedes-Benz OEM wipers are capable of going through 500 000 wiping cycles without any noticeable decrease in wiping quality. This means that even after a year of active use your wiper blades will still perform as good as new.

Correct wiper blade replacement is a must in order to achieve their full performance potential, therefore its best to be done by professional service personnel. Vehicle must be put in the service mode, they must be correctly locked in place to ensure correct position and angle against the windshield. Additional precautions must be in order not to cause any defects to the paint of the car during the maintenance process. Domenikss recommends changing your wiper blades early, in order to be able to see the beautiful springs un in all of its glory through a clean windshield.
