A new generation of vehicles comes with a new name for the Mercedes-Benz medium class SUVs and provides an opportunity for it to make huge progress in several directions. Excellent design, totally new technologies and safety makes the GLC an absolute leader of its class.
From good to excellent
A single glance is enough to see that the GLC (a successor of the GLK) shows off its totally new looks. The edgy nature, characteristic to the legendary G class off-road vehicles, has been replaced by sensuality, precise lines and sculptural surfaces, but the roof line “falls” almost with the elegance of a coupé.
But it is not just about looks, because the new body also offers practical advantages in each significant parameter. Passengers may enjoy larger space in the front and back of the vehicle. The area for the backseat passengers’ feet and the back door frame has been enlarged, making entering the vehicle even easier.
The GLC is a true family vehicle. The capacity of the trunk is 580 litres, while its maximum capacity after lowering the back seat reaches 1600 litres – 50 litres more than before.
Highly advanced equipment
A range of standard GLC engines equipped with all-wheel-drive and automatic transmission of 9 gears consists of economic diesel and gasoline engines. A 350e version of the GLC is available as an environmentally-friendly hybrid, while Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC with 365 HP is intended for individuals who particularly prefer dynamic driving.
Fuel economy indicators have been significantly improved, with savings in some versions reaching as much as 19%. The average fuel consumption of, for example, the GLC 220d is only 5–5.5 litres per 100 km.
Particular attention must to be paid to the novelties which improve driving comfort. The GLC is the only vehicle in its class which may be equipped with a pneumatic suspension. AIR BODY CONTROL system with multi-chamber suspension pillars offers a previously impossible opportunity of adapting to driving conditions.
DYNAMIC SELECT system is also part of the GLC’s equipment, providing an opportunity to select different driving modes – ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, SPORT+ and INDIVIDUAL.
Premium class safety
Almost all safety systems known from C, E and S class models are available in the GLC. For example, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS minimises the risk of colliding with the vehicle in front of you, Crosswind Assist, stabilising the vehicle in strong side wind, and ATTENTION ASSIST, following the driver’s alertness, also belong to the GLC standard equipment.
The result of the crash tests independently performed by Euro NCAP serves as confirmation for the GLC’s ability to protect its passengers and even other road users: the new model received the top rating of 5 stars.
Talented also in off-road conditions
The status of SUV gives certain obligations, and the GLC is ready both for complicated conditions on the road and real off-road driving. The maximum clearance of the model is almost 23 cm, and the angle for driving up and down is 35 and 21 degrees respectively.
By using Off-Road Engineering equipment, the driver comes into possession of several off-road driving modes, while the bottom part of the vehicle is covered by an especially robust protector.
